Abstract

The topic of this article is the foundation and presence of intercultural education within the framework of Catholic Religious Education. Catholic Religious Education in the Republic of Croatia, although confessional in nature, includes elements of interculturality within its Curriculum. This confirms that the drafting of the new Religious Education Curriculum took into account contemporary pedagogical and scientific insights related to the religious dimension of interculturality, as well as the recommendations of international institutions and those of the Catholic Church regarding this topic. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, the article consists of three chapters. The first chapter provides a theoretical overview of the foundation of the religious dimension of intercultural education. The second chapter discusses ecumenical and interreligious learning, while the third chapter focuses on Catholic Religious Education and the religious dimension of interculturality within high certain secondary education programmes in the Republic of Croatia. The article is based on the findings obtained within the framework of the doctoral dissertation „The Contribution of Catholic Religious Education to the Promotion of the Religious Dimension of Intercultural Education within Secondary School Education in the Republic of Croatia“.
