Paul Ricœur’s Integrative Ethics as a Contribution to Bioethics

Abstract
The article examines the application of the concept of integration in the context of ethics and bioethics. It asks what it means when morality is understood as integrating and whether ethics as normatively oriented reflection on morals can be integrative. Paul Ricœur’s late work is presented as an example of the integration of different ethical approaches within the framework of ethics and bioethics. According to this approach, a conception of ethics that is particularly appropriate for the problem areas of bioethics requires a meaningful combination of Aristotelian and Kantian elements. Ricœur also gives some hints on how to explain moral disagreement and how to deal with this disagreement in a morally appropriate manner.
