Abstract
Croatian poultry farming has a long tradition and a solid foundation for further development, encompassing almost all forms of poultry production. The most important segments include the production of chicken and turkey meat and table eggs, supported by modern slaughterhouses, meat-processing facilities, and eggsorting plants. Additionally, the sector includes parent flock breeding, hatcheries, pullet rearing, and animal feed production. The breeding of other poultry species is mainly seasonal and largely carried out on family farms for personal use. Due to their high nutritional value, poultry products play a significant role in human nutrition, providing essential nutrients suitable for all population groups. Over the past thirty years, Croatian poultry farming has faced numerous challenges related to poultry numbers and the production of meat and eggs. Imports have consistently compensated for the shortage of poultry products to ensure optimal supply to the domestic market. Given the low self-sufficiency in meat and egg production, significant development of the poultry sector in Croatia is expected in the future.
