Abstract

The travel and research writings of Alberto Fortis represent one of the most important sources for understanding the historical, cultural, ethnological, and other aspects of the Eastern Adriatic coast and its broader hinterland in the second half of the 18th century. A particularly significant contribution of Fortis studies lies in the knowledge and interpretation of archaeological sites in this region, among which Burnum (Ivoševci near Kistanje) deserves special scholarly attention. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the author supports his research with historical sources, epigraphic material, archaeological remains, toponymic survivals, archival records, cartographic data, and other relevant materials.
