Abstract

At the end of World War II, some of the defeated soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), primarily Ustaše soldiers and associates of the Ustaše regime, continued their guerrilla struggle against the communist authorities. These alienated military units called themselves Crusaders, and several such
groups also operated in the area around Daruvar. This paper will therefore describe how alienated individuals decided to oppose the new communist authorities and provide an overview of the most active Crusader groups in that area. Additionally, alternative methods of opposing the new order will be briefly presented.
