Abstract
Climate changes affect the conditions in the workplace environment. Long-lasting heat spells, their frequency, and extreme temperatures impact the safety and health of workers and may result in death. European legislature regulating occupational safety and health does not provide concrete protection measures from heat as it does for other risks. Only a general provision is stated requiring from the employer to protect workers from all risks relating to all aspects of work. Thus, the European Union member states independently regulate or neglect to regulate this particular issue. European Union Confederation is urging European Commission to pass a separate directive that would regulate the prevention of risk from excessive heat at the workplace.
