Sažetak
Il “cinema di poesia” and Osservazioni sul piano-sequenza are Pasolini’s most important essays on cinematic language. Alongside these two texts, Pasolini published a variety of shorter essays and articles in an effort to develop a coherent semiotics of cinema. In his writings, he frequently compares literary and cinematic language, exploring their structural and expressive affinities. Although his theories were not taken seriously during his lifetime, recent reappraisals of his work in the context of contemporary lm theory have revealed significant connections be- tween his ideas and later theoretical developments. This article examines the links between Pasolini’s essays on cinema and literature, as well as their impact on sub- sequent lm scholars and semioticians. The continuity of key concerns in his work—such as language and the representation of reality—can be traced from his early literary criticism to his later essays on cinema. Although he eventually privileged cinema over literature, which he considered a more suitable medium for realizing his artistic ambitions, Pasolini continued to employ a comparative approach to cinematic and written language. Moreover, in the early stages of his filmmaking career, he frequently drew on his own novels as source material.
