Sažetak

The aim of this paper is to present infographics as an innovative tool in foreign language teaching. The rapid development of technologies, the predominance of image-based communication, and the vast and continuously increasing volume of information necessitate the adaptation of the educational process and the transformation of teaching methods in response to these challenges. The task of acquiring visual literacy, alongside traditional reading and writing skills, is thereby brought to the forefront. The paper analyzes the concept of visual literacy and provides an overview of research on its various aspects. Based on the theory of dual coding proposed by Allan Paivio, the advantages of using visual aids in teaching are interpreted. Particular emphasis is placed on the effective application of visual tools when working with Generation Z students, whose cognitive abilities have undergone certain changes. One of the emerging methods that has demonstrated effectiveness in teaching foreign (Russian) language at the higher education level is the creation of infographics by students. The paper explores the didactic and functional potential of infographic design in developing both written and oral language production in a foreign language. As a specific contribution, an algorithm for working with infographics is proposed, along with guidelines for teachers for each stage of the process. Infographics, as a visual teaching resource, enhance students’ motivation for active foreign language learning.
