Abstract

The article presents the historical role of mass media in the production of spectacle society and its recent version – the socalled celebrity culture, which characterizes late postmodern society. After the introductory part, which contextualized the main problem of the text, next chapters are dedicated to classical Frankfurt School theses that mass media influence the production of mass culture, as well as to Situationist International, and the concept of spectacle society by Guy Debord. The central part of the article deals with media supported spectacularization of contemporary society, and tries to discover the reasons and interests behind specific media constructions of the world.
