Abstract

The author acquaints us with the thought of Zygmunt Bauman, a sociologist not widely known to the Croatian public. The article focuses on Bauman's understanding of the relationship between freedom and security in an aesthetical and ethical community. It also addresses the issue of multiculturalism. The author concludes that these notions may be important for the development of Croatian society. In public discussions and in the media these notions are often used without contextual reference and deeper reflection of their meaning. This results in the deliberate misuse of such terms for ideological purposes. Finally, the author reflects on possible theological interpretations of Bauman's thought, in particular the creation of an ethical community and the question of freedom.
