Abstract
The Katančić’s translation of the Holy Script is a vivid illustration of a very good standardisation process of the then Croatian language in Ikavian Štokavian, which also proved to be largely sufficient for such demanding biblical texts. However, the translation also indicates that the grammatical system, based on Ikavian Štokavian, was well-mastered and applied virtually without any exceptions. There are some more striking deviations on the lexical level, as it was more difficult to acquire the system in terms of its lexical aspect, and the system itself was sometimes insufficient,
in which case Katančić relied on his vernacular speech.
