Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of women’s writing in Independent Ukraine (works by O. Zabuzhko, M. Matios, G. Pagutyak, S. Andrukhovych, O. Lutsyshyna, D. Matiyash) in the light of postcolonial and feminist criticism. The problem of memory, its preservation, loss and recovery through the metaphor of “abandoned secrets” that need to be found and decoded by a woman is considered.
Emphasis is placed on the themes of motherhood and childhood, the ancestral connection between generations is emphasized, the causes of intergenerational splits and options for possible intergenerational healing are identified. The expression of the experiences of trauma, obedience and rebellion, the problem of finding a way out of silence and finding one’s own voice are described.
