Abstract

Accelerated loss of bone and muscle mass, muscle strength and function as well as bone fragility are characteristics of aging that lead to increased morbidity, mortality, and reduced quality of life. In recent times, it has been observed that osteoporosis and sarcopenia are often simultaneously present in the elderly, which contributes to an increased risk of falls and fractures. Therefore, timely diagnosis of osteosarcopenia is extremely important to eliminate environmental risk factors such as poor nutrition and reduced physical activity.
For healthy aging, it is necessary to maintain a sufficient intake of essential nutrients that have anabolic/anti-catabolic properties, and nutrients with antioxidant/anti-inflammatory properties. Along with an adequate intake of the above-mentioned nutrients, it is necessary to engage in regular physical activity according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, adapted to age and comorbidities
