Abstract

Changing security environment at the end of the 20th century led to re-defining the existence of global and regional organizations dealing with security issues. New challenges and threats are emerging outside the organizations stressing the awareness for neutralization of the crisis' sources, and not their consequences. Precondition to this kind of activities, besides UN's efforts, was readiness of regional security organizations to face new areas of interest and to accept the principles of deploying military forces to conduct peace operations. NATO and EU also accepted this approach adjusting their doctrines of using their armed forces in responding to new security challenges. Today, their forces engagement in peacekeeping missions presents the key form of military activity.
