The new legislative framework in the field of food safety - the new Food act and Act on food hygiene and microbiological criteria for food

Abstract
Taking into account the fact that the State Inspectorate was established in 2019 and consequently publishing of Act on official controls and other official activities carried out in accordance with the regulations on food, feed, animal health and welfare, plant health and plant protection products in May 2021 (“Official Gazette", No. 52/21) it was necessary to amend the legislation in the field of food safety and food hygiene in order to harmonise it with the division of responsibilities and redistribution of certain activities in the field of food safety. Additionally, it was necessary to ensure the implementation of the newly adopted acquis communautaire, which came into force after 2013, when two fundamental acts in the field of food safety and food hygiene were published.
