Abstract

The paper explores the influence of the size of web elements on the web pages of a questionnaire on the quality of data obtained by web surveys. Contemporary web questionnaires are primarily accessed by respondents through their smartphones rather than computers. Numerous studies have been conducted on the influence of device type and screen size on survey results, often citing the size of web controls as one of the reasons for differences in obtained results. Consequently, the size of web elements
on web questionnaires should also be taken into account. The paper describes exploratory research on this topic. Based on the results of this research, we cannot conclude that the actual size of web elements affects the quality of results in web surveys regarding the selected indicators of data quality. However, differences in the arithmetic means of indicator values in expected directions are present, which could serve as a solid foundation for future research. Regarding the reliability measure of the
results, which was also analyzed, statistical tests also show no significant differences. Nevertheless, the results of this study are promising, and it should be conducted on a substantially larger and more heterogeneous sample. This would allow for more precise and reliable statistical results, analysis of results across multiple experimental groups, and statistical analyses that could reveal potential effects of respondents’ demographic characteristics on the results.
