Abstract

The aim of this article is to show the possibilities of implementing cognitiveemotional listening to music (CELM) in Music Art lessons. The theoretical base is the
already established strategy of music listening at school, which combines cognitive and
emotional constructs and uses multimodality, musical and non-musical activities and
multiple listening to the same piece. A comprehensive experience, understanding and
acceptance of music and self-reflection are encouraged. The piece of music is analyzed,
an insight into the composer’s biography is determined, as well as the historical context
of the piece’s creation, the context and the way of listening. The aesthetic value of the
piece is considered, the reasons for preferences and ways of listening to music are
analyzed. The novelty of CELM in high school is also a form of music piece analysis
that helps pupils systematize their knowledge through critical thinking and musical
expression. The paper brings a concretization of the characteristics of CELM in Music
Art teaching on the example of a teaching unit.
