Abstract

The study attempts to capture the meaning and sense agency that comes into play through the role of proper names in the perception of Milan Kundera's Czech written novels, both in terms of the development of his narrative poetics and in terms of the transformation of readers' horizons, where the targeting of the Czech contemporary reader gradually changes to a more universal targeting both in terms of time and space. It takes into account the function of proper names of people, places and unique events that have a collectively shared name designation. In the course of her interpretation, she registers the varying intensity of the semantic load of proper names in Kundera's prose, as well as the interconnectedness and repetition of certain practices, which can then perhaps be seen as typical in the author's poetics.
