Abstract

This paper investigates the dogmatic and rational cultural worldviews through the example of Bosančice and Razlomci, written by the prolific yet neglected
Franciscan Eugen Matić, under the pseudonym Narcis Jenko. The dogmatic
cultural worldview is grounded in conventionality and dogmatism. It will be
analyzed through selected works by Eugen Matić, with an emphasis on the
relationships of characters towards their religion, conventions and community.
In the 19th century, when these literature works appeared, a transition from a
confessiocentric to a modern secular cultural model became evident, and furthermore, a sociocentric worldview shifts to a worldcentric worldview. As a
result, one recognizes a movement from moral-didactic themes to secular, socio-politics concerns. These are the characteristics of the rational cultural worldview, which, alongside the dogmatic one, may be applied to the analysis and
comparison of the selected literary works. The aim is to investigate and apply
both dogmatic and rational cultural worldviews to Jenko’s works, based on the
theoretical insights of Cowen, Beck, and Wilber.
