Abstract
Starting from the important role that the media play in the promotion of
cultural heritage, this paper examines the contribution of the Croatian Catholic
press to the visibility of Croatian cultural heritage, with particular emphasis on
literature of Christian inspiration. Using the method of content analysis on a
selected case study, the paper analyses articles published in the Christian family
magazine Kana in the period from 1970 to 1972. It explores the frequency and
thematic scope of the articles, as well as their connection to the socio-political
and ecclesial context of the Croatian people and the Catholic Church in Croatia
at that time. The study also examines whether the magazine encouraged readers
to write and submit their own literary works. Furthermore, the paper examines
the extent to which Kana provided a space for presenting writers and their
publications, as well as for highlighting notable individuals and events from
Croatian heritage. Literary contributions in Kana are considered within the
broader context of the publishing activity of Kršćanska sadašnjost. The Christian family magazine Kana was selected as the subject of this research due to
its accessibility and the readership it enjoyed not only within Croatia but also
among Croatian emigrants and diaspora communities. The selected time frame,
covering the period immediately before, during, and shortly after the Croatian
Spring, was marked by intense cultural production and a growing awareness of
Croatian national identity.
