Abstract

Modern software development increasingly relies on the separation of client-side components and server-side services in order to improve modularity, scalability, and long-term maintainability. The paper connects the theoretical foundations of REST with a methodological approach to API development, with particular emphasis on interface design, URL endpoint structure, naming consistency, HTTP methods, status codes, and data exchange between client and server. The research is based on a review and synthesis of relevant literature on REST architecture, HTTP communication, resource-oriented design, JSON-based data exchange, and token-based security mechanisms. The main result is a structured set of design guidelines that support predictable API behavior, clearer communication between software components, and improved maintainability of network services. The paper concludes that high-quality REST API design requires the combined application of architectural principles, standardized communication semantics, and security mechanisms such as JSON Web Token authentication and authorization.
