ANTONYMS IN THE STRUCTURE OF MONOLINGUAL DICTIONARIES

Abstract

The author analyses the ways and criteria of citation of antonyms in dictionary entries in monolingual general dictionaries. On the basis of a few analyzed dictionaries she tries to determine the principles which the author of dictionaries has to follow when he includes antonymous relations as a component of dictionary entries in general dictionaries in order to avoid illogical and unprincipled solutions which can be seen in some existing general dictionaries.
