Sažetak

Two years after the critical and commercial success of Felix Austria, Sofiia Andrukhovych collaborated with illustrator Mariana Prokhasko on her first picture book, Constellation Hen (Сузір’я Курки), a multimodal narrative about the unexpected similarities between a young girl and an elderly woman living in the Ukrainian mountains. This article shows that Constellation Hen is a noteworthy example of a picture book that depicts intergenerational solidarity and can lead to beyond-textual interactions among the generations of readers. In his examination of Constellation Hen the author concurs with Deszcz-Tryhubczak and Jacques who have recently argued that examples of intergenerational solidarity found in children’s books “may hone readers’ generational intelligence” since they “not only depict instances of solidaristic endeavors but also constitute vital elements of broader intergenerational ventures” (xxiii).
