Author Guidelines

The journal Annals of the Croatian Political Science Association primarily publishes papers in the scientific field of political science. Aside from that, the journal publishes manuscripts from communication science (communication theory, mass media and public relations), and other fields of social sciences and humanities, such as sociology, economy, law, history and philosophy, if they deal with topics relevant for political science. The journal is published online in December of the current year with the possible prior “online first” publication of individual articles or groups of articles and reviews. The printed edition is published no later than January the following year. Annals are an open access journal. Annals do not levy any charges to an author to process or publish a paper.

The journal welcomes the submission of manuscripts that meet the general criteria of scientific significance and excellence. All manuscripts will undergo a rigorous international double-blind peer review. Submitted articles should not be published before (neither partially nor completely, or in different language), nor should currently be considered for publication by any other journal or book. Authors are responsible for the paper authorship.

Electronic copies should be submitted in a Word format. Manuscripts should be written in either Croatian or English, using Times New Roman font; size 12; 1.5-line spacing, and employ italics, rather than underlining. All pages should be numbered appropriately. The title page shall consist of the article’s full title and abstract, which sufficiently states the purpose, goals, methodologies, and the most important results of the submitted piece (900 characters, noting the 5-6 key words) in both Croatian and English.

The main text of the article (including notes, references, and illustrations) should not exceed 32 type-written double-spaced pages (57 600 characters with spaces). References must be incorporated into the text (not in end-note format) and must follow the “author-year” style of referencing. The list of references should include only the works cited in the text, according to following examples:

For possible additional instructions when listing different categories of sources, please consult the rules of the general citation guide.

The bibliography should be listed alphabetically according to the last name of the first author. Where available, DOI number for the references must be provided. The authors are recommended to use footnotes primarily to comment or expand on what is mentioned in the text, but are also advised to take care of their reasonable size and not to overdo their use at the expense of the main text. All illustrations should be prepared in separate documents and uploaded as supplementary files. Supplementary files should be named with the title of the illustration in the same manner as in the manuscript, and positions where illustrations should be inserted have to be clearly marked within the manuscript. The instructions in ensuring a blind review have to be followed.

Peer-reviewed papers are categorized into following categories: original scientific paper, preliminary communication, review paper. An original scientific paper contains unpublished original research. A preliminary communication contains new results of scientific research, which demand urgent publishing. It does not have to enable a verification of the results portrayed. A review paper must be an original, summarized and critical portrayal of topical area or subdiscipline the author is active in. The role of the author’s original contribution in that area must be emphasized in regards to already published works and the overview of those works.

By accepting the categorization and publication of the paper, the author is obliged not to publish the same paper somewhere else without specifying that it was published and when it was first published in the Annals of the Croatian Political Science Association. The categories of scientific and professional papers are suggested by the reviewers, and the final decision, based on the peer-reviews, is made by the Editorial Board.
