Sažetak

In the context of ensuring human rights and equal opportunities for people with disabilities, and children with developmental disabilities, primarily those with hearing impairments, this paper problematizes contemporary
knowledge about theory and scientific research in the field of Sign Language and Deaf Culture, as well as legislative frameworks and practices of (professional) communication intermediaries’ services for deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind people in the Republic of Croatia. It provides an overview of scientifically based knowledge that is important for understanding social issues and more effective implementation of policies and social interventions.
