Abstract

Introduction: The education of nurses and technicians is crucial for the healthcare system quality. In modern education for healthcare professionals, international cooperation and mobility programmes, such as job shadowing, are important tools for enhancing the quality of teaching, knowledge exchange, and the development of professional competencies. A comparative analysis of educational programmes and working methods of different institutions is particularly significant, as it allows the identification of best practices and the improvement of the educational process.
Aim: This work aims to present the experiences of vocational subjects teachers from the School of Nursing Mlinarska gained during job shadowing at the Public Institution Secondary Medical School Sarajevo, with an emphasis on presenting a comparative analysis of education.
Method: Literature from the field of education and training was used and analyzed, including available professional curricula. In the literature search, the keywords job shadowing were used. Information was collected during visits in April 2025, through focus groups. This paper compares two schools: School of Nursing Mlinarska from Zagreb and the Public Institution Secondary Medical School Sarajevo. The focus is on the comparative structure of education, working conditions, clinical training, and international cooperation, including the experiences of vocational subject teachers from Zagreb in Sarajevo during the job shadowing.
Results: The School for Nursing Mlinarska has a more developed and internationally aligned education system with an emphasis on innovation in the context of the Erasmus+ programme, while the Secondary Medical School Sarajevo has a more traditional model of education with potential for further development of international cooperation.
Conclusion: The paper confirms that international cooperation and job shadowing are essential tools for the modernization and internationalization of nurses' education.
