The Mystery of Faith in Søren Kierkegaard in the Context of Early Existentialist Thought

Sažetak

This paper discusses Kierkegaard’s concept of faith. The methodological turn towards the concrete individual, evident in the work of the father of existentialism, has implications for our understanding of humanity in existential and anthropological sense. Thus, the existentialist search for the self takes on a certain gravitas when manifested in the concept of faith and its interpretations. The aforementioned gravitas can be justified through dialectics, a method that is unavoidable when dealing with the concept of faith in Kierkegaard’s works. The final presentation of the paradox resulting from this method provides insight into the contingency of the self-reflective individual, especially in relation to the absolute as is characteristic of the concept of faith.
