Abstract

A survey was conducted among teachers in the County of Varaždin (a total of 241 respondents) to establish whether their attitude to working with gifted students was positive, negative or ambivalent. The survey involved the application of scales to measure positive and negative attitudes and to determine ambivalence towards giftedness. By determining the statistical significance of differences between groups of teachers with different personality traits and by establishing the link between these traits and their positive or ambivalent attitude towards giftedness, the conclusion was reached that the four most important variables influencing a positive or ambivalent attitude towards giftedness are the following: years of teaching experience, feeling of ease when working with gifted students, degree of involvement in teaching, and satisfaction with work.
