Abstract

Focusing on three poems (Walk, 1914, 1915), we will consider how Andrić, who wrote poems during the days of imprisonment when arrested as a member of the political organization of Young Bosnia in Split in July 1914. The poems helped Andrić come to terms with the time spent in Split and Maribor prisons. By refracting his life experiences through poetry, the writer reveals his deep-set reflections in which suffering and fear are the dominant feelings, while dreams forebode future events. Ivo Andrić's spirituality permeates every verse and, complemented with the pronounced lyricism of the poems, serves as a prelude to his great literary achievement to come years later.
