Urban Development of Croatian towns in 19th Century
Bruno Milić
Sažetak
The political and cultural life of the 19th century Croatia was marked by the ideas emerging from the Enlightenment and liberal democracy initiating a strong tide of nation-centred ideas known as the Illyrian Movement. A major breakthrough in economic life was the transformation of the guild and craft-based production into industrial manufacture, whereas local shops evolved into commercial industry. All major settlements developed a better quality municipal service and thus acquired more urban characteristics with a considerable influx of population.
