AUDIATUR ET ALTERA PARS! (EX-CENTRISM IN MACEDONIAN NOVEL)
Keywords:
postmodern poetics, Macedonian novel, ex-centrism, decenteringAbstract
The subject of interest of this text are five novels from contemporary Macedonian literature, interpreted through the prism of certain categories in postmodern theories. The theoretical premises of the interpretation start from two approaches: 1 Linda
Hutcheon’s thesis on ex-centrism as one of the dominant postmodern poetics, which is in the function of parallel affirmation and problematization of boundaries; 2 the theses of Elisabeth Wesseling and Brian McHale on postmodern historical novel as a paradigmatic genre that demonstrates these ontological, epistemological, and interdiscursive transgressions. Hence, the interpretative focus is placed on the affirmations of ex-centrism on the thematic, structural, and narrative level in the novels, in order to reconsider the relations between literature and historiography, fiction and fact, official and alternative versions of past.
