Modalities of a new word strategy within the Croatian short prose in the period between sixties and the eightiess of this century are being discussed in this article. The increasingly dominant model of written naration is metaphorical one, and this is being shown and explained as a part of a specific and creative relation towards reality, and also as part of postmodernistic formative techniques in the works of Nenad Šepić, Goran Tribuson, Pavao Pavličić, Stjepan Čuić and Dubravka Ugrešić. Fundamental qualities of such a technique besides the mentioned metaphorization and symbolization, are also the fear of the words meaning, an anticipation of a possible existance of uncodified communicative models, a critical standpoint towards the dominant political ideology, as well as a formative ludism which equally questions the importance of the literary and the social reality.
