Call for the best student paper of the 'Sociology and Space' journal

Sociology and Space is a leading regional journal for spatial studies from the perspective of urban and rural sociology and related scholarly disciplines. In addition to our strategy of promoting the high quality and visibility of research in that domain, we launch a Call for “The best student paper in 2021“.

The aim of this competition is to instigate publishing of the best papers by the new generation of authors in the domain of spatial research from the aspects of various scholarly branches and disciplines. The Editorial Board of the journal therefore invites students of all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate studies of Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Architecture and related disciplines to submit their papers on various aspects of the spatial issues.

The Call is open to various perspectives addressing spatial and environmental topics, and there are no pre-set topics. The works are expected to reflect the problems that people and communities are facing on the local, regional and global level. The qualitative and quantitative studies are equally acceptable, along with case studies, reviews of best practices, etc. There is no limit to the number of authors, however, it is compulsory that the first author of the paper will not have defended a Ph.D. thesis until the end of 2021.

The papers may be up to 5,000 words in length, excluding the title, key words, abstract and references. The articles written in Croatian, English, Serbian and Bosnian language will be considered. The deadline for the submission of papers is 1st October 2021.

The best paper will be chosen by the Committee comprised of members of the Editorial Board, the Journal Council and other international experts. The papers will be evaluated based on:

    – Appropriateness of the theoretical and methodological approach

    – Originality in addressing the topic

    – Topicality of explored problems

The paper will be published in Vol. 59. No 221 of the journal: The author of the selected paper will receive a financial award and a free subscription to Sociology and Space. The papers are submitted via the journal's user portal (https://hrcak.srce.hr/ojs/index.php/sip) and are sent electronically to the email addresses: ankica@idi.hr, lanapeternel@idi.hr and/or sip@idi.hr under the title “The best student paper 2021“.
