Abstract

Preserving food safety in food chain, as well as the availability of world’s food supply in terms of public health and global economy is one
of the most important issues today. The globalization process which involves putting food on the world market enables hygienically unsafe
food to be the cause of disease for a large number of people in different countries of the world at the same time. This paper presents data on
the most significant bacterial pathogens of foodborne infections and intoxications, and their prevalence, notwithstanding the role of the
World Health Organization and notification systems for cases of hygienically unsafe food on the market.
