Abstract

In the introductory part the author presents information on the history of the keeping of parish records after the Tridentine Council, and in particular on the keeping of the Status Animarum (Status of the Souls) registers. The author then gives an overview of the literature on the preservation of the latter registers in Slovenia and then discusses also the Croatian part of Istria (County of Istria, modern Poreč and Pula Diocese). He also emphasizes their importance as the information contained in the Status Animarum is submitted to the bishop on the occasions of his official visitations. In the end the author provides a list of families comprised in the Status Animarum registers discussed in this work and provides information on these families. He indicates their number for each of the studied three years and the total number of family members, specifying the number of adults and children. He also lists the surnames annotated to confir their survival to the present day. The list also specifies families which had servants as well as locations and professions annotated in the aforesaid registers. The conclusion given by the author is that, regardless of the incompletness of data, such registers deserve to be published due to their preservation and their age.
