Abstract

By having researched into the pastoral visitations, the authors have come to know that this useful job is being made more difficult by the fact that there is no table of contents which may possibly indicate the leaves where reference could be find to visitations of some single parishes. For the purpose of facilitating that work, in July, 1999 they made up a table of contents following the alphabetical order of names of parishes of the diocese of Poreč from 1600 to 1781, the year up to which visitations had been preserved in the form of a book. At first the “List” had been of a great help to the authors for internal use, however later on, at request of various research workers it was eventually published. After some short explanations referring to the reasons of publishing this work, the authors explain briefly the importance of the visitations as a source of multidiscipline researches. Afterwards there is a survey of the visitation’s procedure. What follows is a short chapter dealing with the developmental stages of the diocese of Poreč and information on the state of preservation of the visitation’s minute-books. The authors mention furthermore preserved visitations of some single bishops, for which they give data on the place of birth and the span of time of their diocese’s administration. The main part of the work is represented by the “List” of names of parishes following the alphabetical order. For every single parish it is mentioned when was it founded (certain or approximate data), as well as the number of leaves (r – recto – the front part of the leaf and v – verso – the back part of the leaf) in every single book, which are relative to some single parishes.
