Archival documents of the former maritime companies in the Historical Archive in Rijeka

Abstract

The documents of maritime companies arrived in the Archive in two times. The material refers mainly to the activity of maritime companies between the two world wars. The first lot comprises the material belonging to companies which had their seat in Rijeka: Adria - Rijeka, Tirrenia - Rijeka branch office, Adriatica - Rijeka agency, Fiumana - Rijeka, Lloyd Triestino - Rijeka office, Italia - Rijeka office. The second lot came into the Archive in 1968. It consisted of documents belonging to the General management of the commercial navy in Rijeka, and to the following maritime companies: Prekomorska plovidba Sušak, Jugoslavenska plovidba Sušak, Atlantska plovidba Sušak, Jadranska plovidba Sušak, Jadran d.d. Sušak, Slobodna plovidba Topic d.d. Sušak, and Savez pomorskih brodovlasnika Jugoslavije (Association of maritime shipowners of Yugoslavia). The archival material is incomplete, but it nevertheless represents an important source for the study of maritime affairs of this area in the period between the two world wars.
