Marulić's Works in Great Britain

Sažetak
The writer gives a short survey of the reception of Marulić in the British Isles during the 16th century. It is known that the Croatian writer was cited by Henry VIII and his chancellor, Thomas More, in whose works The Supplication of the Souls and A Dialogue of Comfort influences from Marulić’s Evangelistary can be detected. The Catholic Philip Howard, Earl of Arundel, translated Marulić’s cel-ebrated poem Carmen de doctrina Domini nostri Iesu Christi pendentis in cruce into English, under the title A Dialogue between a Christian and Christ Hanging on the Cross. The poem was printed in the year of Howard’s death, 1595, on the secret press in Arundel Castle. Because of the strict ban on Catholic printed works, not a single Marulić book was printed on British soil, but one English publisher, also a Catholic, printed an important edition of Marulić’s De institutione in exile, under the title Dictorum factorumque memorabilium libri sex (Antwerp 1577).
At the end, the author gives a short survey of the Marulić MSS and editions that are held in libraries in the UK.
