Sažetak

This work deals with groups of children exposed to risk factors, whose differences and number have been in the greatest part caused by the specific conditions of life in war and post-war circumstances. It also underlines the necessity to change the ethical principles of the practice of social work, particularly in the context of satisfying people’s needs, and elaborates three key words: belonging, self-respect and cooperation. In the light of this, examples are given of the stigmatisation of children caused by the political beliefs of their parents and the practice of fuelling the victim complex. The question of the ethical aspects of the Convention on the Rights of the Child is also raised by putting into practice the right to survival through the experience of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the besieged Sarajevo.
