The journal Ethnologica Dalmatica is a continuation of the publishing activities of the Ethnographic Museum of Split, which began at the museum's very founding. As early as 1913, the first issue of the journal Koledar Pokrajinskog muzeja za narodni obrt i umjetnost u Splitu (Yearbook of the Provincial Museum of Folk Art and Craft in Split) was published, but its publication was interrupted by the First World War in 1914 after only two issues had been released. The museum resumed publishing its yearbook in 1992, now under the title Ethnologica Dalmatica. The journal publishes professional and scientific articles in the fields of ethnography, ethnology, cultural anthropology, museology, cultural history, and related sciences. The journal is edited within the museum, and its authors and contributors are the institution's professional staff as well as numerous external collaborators from Split, Dalmatia, and all over Croatia. All professional and scientific papers undergo peer review and are categorized.
