Sažetak

Colonization of vagina during pregnancy by streptococcus group B represents the risk factor for the development of early neonatal disease in newborn population. GBS neonatal infection is very important for the newborn morbidity, possibly causing even permanent defects. Based on the specific epidemiologic situation, most countries made the protocols for the prevention of infection. These protocols were based on the detection of vaginal colonization with the streptococcus group B, during the 35th till 37th week of pregnancy, as well as on the various risk factors. The only available method up till now has been the correct application of intrapartal antibiotic prophylaxis. Following the worldwide formed and recognized protocols about the adequate screening, risk factor evaluation and about the antibiotic prophylaxis, the appearance of neonatal desease in newborn population, caused by streptococcus group B, can be minimised significantly.
