Sažetak

The concept of international territorial administration is actualized in the theory of international law through the establishment of UN Missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and East Timor. Within these missions, the UN assumes complete governance of the country or territory by establishing local authorities over which they then gradually transfer powers. Historical examples where international organizations have taken over governance of territories are taken into consideration and the similarities between
other institutions of international law, such as vassal state, protectorate, protected state, condominium, mandate and trusteeship, military occupation, are analyzed. The
foundation of such international administration is examined within international law, as are the degrees of power of the administrator, the goals of such administration, and the possibilities for its future application.
