Sažetak
If in the past the Church saw the media an appropriate source of pastoral activity and thought about their needs, in more recent times it sees this as a new culture and points out its significance in shaping social processes. Keeping in mind rapid technological development particularly obvious in the area of social communication and the significance of communication in life in general, we see that today it is necessary to pay greater attention to communication processes themselves. This does not relate merely to new methods of communication but to the changing role and relations between collocutors offering new opportunities to participate in public life and to personally experience these changes in society and institutions that for centuries communicated along different communication templates. Starting from the fact that evangelisation presumes fidelity to the Gospel but also to man to whom it is directed, knowing communication processes in the Church could help us to better understand man, his way of experiencing and communication but also for the Church to be more involved in dialogue with and the life of society. Starting from the image of the Church that exists in today's public and that it was on the most part actually created through the media, in this article the author speaks about the nature of communication in modern society and in particular emphasising basic criteria of activities in the media. The manner of communication in today's society urges the Church to communication and to include a larger number of people in communication with the public. In the second part of the article the author writes about new media. It offers numerous opportunities that enable rapid access to information, enhancing new communication methods and creating new forms of togetherness. Action presents us with new questions because we experience space and time, bodiness in a different way and this changes in relation to collocutors, setting up (virtual) communities. We are also faced with a different way of experiencing faith and divinity. The Church is called to face up to these new challenges.
