Abstract

The list of Haptmann’s Zagreb performances contains three dramas which have a female name in their headings. The plots of these dramas concentrate on female characters – these being Anica, Elga and Roza Bernd, which were played on the Zagreb Croatian National Theatre stage by Hermina Šumovska (1896), Nina Vavra (1908) and Anka Kernic (1916 and 1923). The reception of the theatre performances, made after the mentioned dramas with a special accent on the profile of the drama character and acting interpretations of particular actresses, are the main topic of this work. As there were ten years between the premiere performances, and Roza Bernd was revived in the 1920s, the analysis suggests the changes in the theatrical life in Zagreb.
