Sažetak

Turkey drinking water quality in family households in Dalmatian hinterland was investigated. The study included water samples from four sources: waterworks, well, tank and barrel, which are used for filling the pots for turkey watering. Water quality parameters important for poultry were analysed: colour, turbidity, pH, total hardness, total dissolved solids, chlorides, nitrites, nitrates, aerobic mesophilic and coliform bacteria. The study results showed that only water from the waterworks was safe, while water from other sources was inadequate. Water from all watering pots was hygienically inappropriate. This can be ascribed to poor water quality of water sources, unsuitable pots and irregular water changing. It may be concluded that it is necessary to indicate the importance of watering hygiene to the breeders, which includes safe water from water sources, adequate pots and sufficient quantity of fresh water.
