The transportation system of Istria – development and problems of integration within the Croatian transportation system

Sažetak
The paper studies the transportation system of the Istria County. The study included the analysis of the process and the level of development, the significance of particular modes of transportation system of Croatia. The results of this analysis have indicated that the strongest development of the Istria's transportation system occured during Austrian, Yugoslav and transition period, that the road transportation has by far the largest significance among the particular modes of transportation, and that the lack of direct rail connection between Istria and other parts of Croatia is one of the fundamental causes of insufficient integration of the Istria County within the socio-economic life of the Rijeka Macroregion.
