Three Disposed Reliquaries of Historic Importance of Zadar

Sažetak

Having presented a review ojobjects ojlarger artistic and cultural-historic values, that disappeared or were disposed offrom the Zadar Cathedral treasury in the earlier or more recent history, the author deals with three valuable works ofgold that belonged to the Zadar Cathedraltreasury, to have been sold about the year 1780 in order to rise money for building the new roof to the cathedral. We know them from descriptions in old inven/01Y lists only. Tbe
/irst reliquary was shaped as a hand and made ofsolid gold, with a gi/ded silver base, dcbly decoraled with /iNgree, precious stones, pearls and enamei images ofsaints. Jt was intended to receive the relies of the Zadar's patron saint, Sv. Kl1evan (St. Grisogonus). lt was engraved an inscription oj the Hungaro-Croalian king Koloman. Tbe other two are silver icons -reliquaries, one for the relicrs oj St. Martin, with a reliej image oj the saint on borse, ordered by the Croatian vice-roy (ban) Pavao Bribirski and his son Mladen, bearing an inscription mentioninf{ them as Corvatiae presides, and the other jar the relicts of ss. Peter and Paul and the prophet Daniel, with gi/ded reliej images of the three saints. It was ordered by the vice-roy Pavao, menlio.7ed in the inscription as banus Croatorum et dominus toti/IS Bosne. Tbe author assumes that the buyer of these objects, besides being aware ojtheir material and artistic value, was also jamiliar with the historic meaning of the persons n7entiolled ill the inscriptians.
