Sažetak

The purpose of this paper is to show basic limitations of optical connections. It analyzes the attenuation and dispersion of the signal that propagates along the optical fiber. It gives some fundamental characteristics of optical amplifiers. The properties of optical amplifiers with erbium doped fiber (EDFA) are shown in detail, as one of the most important group of optical amplifiers and signal regeneration foundation in the optical domain. At the end, the measurement results for noise characteristics of EDFA and gain for different pump powers and amplification in multichannel systems are shown and compared.
