Multicultural approaches and multiculturalism in a postcolonial ‘state of affairs’: about dislocated identity, narrating the community, literature and the positioning the national other

Sažetak
This article is concerned with the problems of multiculturalism and multicultural approaches
to the communities in postcolonial environments. The major task is to identify the patterns in
which the dominant and the other culture position themselves towards the problem of narration of
the nation, that is the problem of perception of the nation through the stories. It is a study of the
positioning towards the problem of collective identity of the nation (and émigré communities) as
well as the influence of mainstream culture upon these communities.
From a perspective of postcolonial difference, we can see two parallel processes taking
place. On one side there is a difference produced from the émigré culture that is in relationship
with the culture of the country of origin. On the other side, national culture that originates in the
environment of the other culture positions itself as a culture of difference in relationship towards
the culture of host country.
A dynamic strategy of not/belonging in relationship towards two cultures (the culture of the
country/nation of origin and the culture/country of host nation is in a centre of attention of this
study. In this environment the phenomenon of imaginary homeland with all its mythologemes and
ideologemes is studied based on the corpus of literary work, political writing and the imaginary
space (and time) produced in ethnic press.
