Zadar-Poljica Documents from the XVIIIth Century

Sažetak

The author analyses 17 original documents in the broader sense of the word from the XVIIIth century. Most of them were written in Zadar and all of them relate to the Poljica Republic which at that time was under Venetian rule, that is under the administration of its general provveditore for Dalmatia and Albania with his headquarters in Zadar. They were written in the Croatian language using the Bosanica script, that is the Croatian Cyrillic, or Glagolithic script as the Poljica people called it during the entire period it was used in Poljica, while two documents were written in Latin (Italian). The author discusses them from the diplomatic-historical perspective, presents their transcription, describes their external and internal characteristics, diplomatic formulas with their historical content and in the appendix offers facsimiles of the greater part of their originals. The beginning of the texts of the documents, names, surnames, toponyms and similar elements he transcribes into capital letters while he leaves the rest as in the original. He leaves the punctuation as in the original except that in certain places he inserts full stops in those cases when in the original some sign exists which, according to the construction of the sentence, would correspond to today’s full stop. This article belongs to the series of articles the author has written about unpublished Poljica documents which he has analyzed from the diplomatic and, generally, chronological-historical point of view and which he has transcribed into the Latin script.
